Crop damage assessment with drone maps

Walking a field only shows part of the damage. A drone map measures all of it, including areas you cannot reach on foot, and gives you an area per cause.

Steps

  1. Fly the affected fields and process the images in PIX4Dfields on your computer.
  2. Check vegetation indices to confirm which areas are affected.
  3. Flag damaged areas with the Magic tool and add annotations, classified by cause (for example frost or deer).
  4. Measure and share the affected surface per cause, and monitor replanted areas later.

Field example from Pix4D

In Cambridgeshire, UK, an operator surveyed 115 hectares in about 10 hours of flight with a DJI Mavic 3 Multispectral. Processing in PIX4Dfields took 3 to 4 hours on a Windows PC, and damage from frost and deer was annotated by cause across the fields.
